Paranoid or Offgrid Sense

by , in

Good evening. It's turned out to be a very nice day here and rain clouds have passed.
I hope your day has went well.

I'm wondering if you'd live in a house like this surrounded by fields of flowers? The flowers are pretty aren't they & the view breathtaking.

I am working to live more offgrid and not sure I'd like my house on top a hill to even be spotted by planes or in view of other neighbors.

To me offgrid and secure means not living next to or near highways and having plenty of healthy space between neighbors.
Am I paranoid or does this speak to living offgrid for you?

4 Things New Parents Have to Learn Really Fast

by , in
4 Things New Parents Have to Learn Really Fast
By Aurora McCausland

New parents are automatically thrown into a world they know next to nothing about. There is a sharp learning curve, and it is immediate. Suddenly, you’re having to learn things you never had to even think about before. Burping baby before laying them down so they don’t get trapped gas bubbles. Checking the temperature of bath water with their elbow to make sure it’s not too hot or cold. Learning what types of foods are safe to give your child, and when. It’s a whole new world, and parents have to learn a lot of new information incredibly fast. Here are a few things that new parents have to learn and adapt to within the first year of becoming new parents.

Things that used to be a nuisance can be dangerous

Lots of things are annoying to us. But when they’re just that, annoying, we don’t really worry about fixing them or removing them, until that annoyance becomes aggravated. When it comes to babies, though, some of these annoyances can become dangerous. Take pest infestations, for example. If you have a spider or ant problem, it’s annoying, but if it’s not that bad, it’s easy to ignore and just squash the offensive bug when it crosses your path. Having a baby crawling around and putting absolutely everything in their mouth, makes a pest issue a little bit more of an issue, and is something that needs to resolved as soon as it’s discovered.

How to multitask

Of course, you don’t actually have to learn how to multitask to be a parent, but learning to do multiple things at once will help you be a lot more productive with your days. During the newborn phase, you can expect to not really get a lot done. You’re recovering, and getting to know your new little bundle of joy, so it doesn’t really matter if you’re eating takeout 6 nights a week and you can’t even remember the last time you did laundry. As you recover, you’ll come out of the newborn stupor and want to be more productive. Get a baby wrap, and wear your baby as your fold laundry, go on a walk for a breath of fresh air, or do the dishes. As your baby becomes a toddler, learn to tune out their favorite tv show while you get some work done.

All about teeth

Babies get teeth, and when they do, it’s rough. You notice that they’re teething by the excessive amounts of drool, the constant gnawing on everything in reach, and crankiness. Teething can be accompanied by sleepless and painful nights, for both you and your baby. And then once the teeth have arrived, they’ll bite you. Even if you’re not nursing, your baby will lovingly cuddle into your chest, only to clamp down as hard as they can on your collarbone. Learning how to take care of their teeth when they’re young is so important! Make sure that you give them a toothbrush as soon as their teeth start popping up(or even before that), to get them used to dental hygiene. Pick lots of mouth healthy foods(such as raw vegetables) for them to chew on, and make sure they start going to the dentist before they are 18 months old to develop good habits.

How to take everything with a grain of salt

Everyone you know is going to have an opinion about the way you parent and raise your children. You’re introducing solids too early, you’re introducing solids too late. You’re saying no too often, you’re not saying no often enough. It doesn’t matter what you do, someone will come out of the woodwork to tell you that it isn’t the right way to parent and share their own experiences with you. Take all of this with a grain of salt. As long as you are being safe, and consistently communicating with your pediatrician on anything you have questions about, then you should follow what your parental gut is telling you to do. You don’t have to parent like anyone else, and as long as your child is safe, you are free to parent however you see is best.
